Rapid City, SD – A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Northern Black Hills and Northern Foothills of South Dakota, with snow expected to begin this evening and continue into Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is forecasted to accumulate between 3 to 9 inches in the higher elevations, including areas near Lead, Terry Peak, and Cheyenne Crossing. Lower elevations will likely see 2 to 5 inches of snow, with conditions potentially worsening overnight.

The advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. MDT today until 3 p.m. MDT Wednesday in the Northern Black Hills, and from 9 p.m. MDT tonight until noon MDT Wednesday in the Northern Foothills and Wyoming’s Black Hills.

The snow is expected to create hazardous driving conditions, particularly during the Wednesday morning commute. Drivers are advised to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions at 511 for the latest updates.

This winter weather could lead to slippery roads, especially in the higher elevations, where snow totals may be more significant.
