Green Bay, WI – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa on Wednesday, bringing snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday for Portage, Wood, Menominee, Northern Oconto, Shawano, and Southern Marinette Counties. These areas could see 1 to 4 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 40 mph, creating blowing snow and slippery roads.

Further west, a separate Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for Floyd and Howard Counties in Iowa and Winneshiek County in Minnesota, including La Crosse and Monroe Counties in Wisconsin. These areas may receive up to 8 inches of snow, with winds gusting up to 55 mph, potentially causing near-whiteout conditions.

Travelers are urged to slow down, use caution, and check 511wi.gov for road conditions. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commutes. Wind gusts may also damage trees and power lines.
