Milwaukee, WI – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Thursday morning into Friday, with heavy snow expected to impact southeastern Wisconsin. Areas including Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, and Sheboygan counties could see up to 6 inches of accumulation, with lake-enhanced snow pushing totals higher near Lake Michigan.
The National Weather Service says snow will begin early Thursday morning and intensify throughout the day, affecting both morning and evening commutes. Lake-effect snow could linger into Friday, particularly near lakeshore communities, where conditions may remain hazardous into the Friday morning commute.
Motorists are urged to prepare for slow travel and slippery roads, especially along major routes like Interstate 43 and Highway 41. Snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour are possible, creating low visibility and hazardous conditions during peak travel times.
According to the extended forecast, snow will continue Thursday night into Friday morning before tapering off. Daytime highs are expected to hover around the low 30s, with winds shifting from the south to north, leading to wind chills in the teens by Friday.
Looking ahead, calmer conditions return Saturday, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 25 degrees. However, another system could bring light snow Sunday night into Monday, keeping Wisconsin residents on alert as winter progresses.
Travelers are encouraged to monitor updates and prepare for potential delays. Drivers should keep emergency kits in their vehicles and allow extra time when commuting Thursday and Friday.
