Binghamton, NY – Central New York is set to experience a fresh round of snowfall starting tonight, with areas along the I-90 corridor expected to see the heaviest accumulation. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect, with snowfall totals ranging between 3 to 6 inches for Syracuse, Utica, and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin after 7 p.m., with the heaviest snowfall expected between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Tuesday. During this period, snowfall rates could reach one inch per hour, reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and plan for slower commutes on Christmas Eve morning.
Temperatures will hover around the mid-20s overnight, making road surfaces icy and salt treatments less effective. Additional light snow may linger into Tuesday afternoon, with localized totals reaching 6 inches in some areas.
The five-day forecast shows a reprieve from heavy snowfall after Tuesday. Christmas Day will be partly sunny with highs near 32 degrees, followed by mostly cloudy conditions on Wednesday night and Thursday. Temperatures will gradually rise by Friday, reaching highs near 37.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates and ensure vehicles are equipped with winter supplies if traveling. Snow removal teams will be active overnight to minimize impacts on holiday travel.
