Reno, NV – A powerful winter storm continues to impact the Sierra Nevada region, bringing heavy snowfall and hazardous travel conditions through Monday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Winter Storm Warnings for northeastern California and the Lake Tahoe area until 11 p.m. PDT, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Mono County.

According to the NWS Reno office, snowfall rates are expected to reach over 2 inches per hour in some areas, including Donner Pass, which could make travel difficult to impossible. Additional accumulations throughout the day will create dangerous road conditions, especially in higher elevations such as Carson Pass, Echo Summit, and Mt. Rose Summit.

Authorities are urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and to be prepared with emergency supplies if they must drive. Visibility may be significantly reduced, and hazardous conditions could persist into Monday evening.

Residents and travelers in the affected areas should monitor updates from the NWS and Caltrans for real-time road conditions and closures. Those venturing out should carry extra flashlights, food, and water in case of emergencies. The storm is expected to weaken overnight, but lingering snow showers could still impact morning commutes on Tuesday.
