Wilmington, OH – The National Weather Service in Wilmington is forecasting a period of light to moderate snow beginning Thursday night and continuing into early Friday morning, potentially impacting travel across the Tri-State region.

Forecasters say the heaviest snowfall is expected in an area stretching from southeast Indiana through southwest Ohio and into northern and northeast Kentucky, where 2 inches or more could accumulate. Areas within the pink-circled zone on the NWS map have the greatest likelihood of higher totals.

Snow is forecast to begin around 8 p.m. Thursday, continuing through the early morning hours Friday. The Friday morning commute could see snow-covered or slick untreated roads, especially in rural and elevated areas.

While this system is not expected to bring major totals, forecasters warn that even light snow can create hazardous travel conditions, particularly during rush hour. Visibility may also be briefly reduced during bursts of heavier snow.

Residents in Dayton, Cincinnati, Portsmouth, and Maysville are advised to allow extra time for travel Friday morning and to use caution on untreated roads and bridges.

After the snow ends mid-morning Friday, temperatures will remain near or below freezing, slowing melting through the day. Another weak system could bring additional light snow chances later in the weekend.
