Snowfall is set to ring in the New Year across the Ohio Valley, bringing icy roads and potential travel delays for holiday plans. Residents are urged to prepare for freezing conditions and monitor local road updates.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will transition to snow Tuesday night, with steady snowfall expected throughout New Year’s Day. While accumulations are predicted to be light, icy roadways and reduced visibility could create dangerous driving conditions, particularly along I-71 and other major routes.
Temperatures on New Year’s Day will peak at 37 degrees before plunging into the 20s by evening, making untreated surfaces especially slick. Tuesday will bring rain and highs near 50 degrees, but colder air moving in overnight will set the stage for snow.
Looking beyond New Year’s Day, frigid conditions will dominate the week, with highs in the mid-30s and lows dropping into the teens by midweek. Another snow chance is forecast for Thursday, while Friday will offer partly sunny skies but remain bitterly cold.
Travelers should allow extra time, drive cautiously, and prepare emergency kits for winter conditions. Stay updated on forecasts to ensure a safe start to the New Year.
