Detroit, MI – An arctic cold front is expected to bring intense snow squalls to the Great Lakes region tonight, creating dangerous conditions for drivers on I-75 and other major highways.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that the squalls will produce heavy bursts of snow, strong winds, and near-zero visibility. Flash freezing is also likely, making roadways slippery and hazardous. Areas across Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana will see the most significant impacts, with conditions expected to worsen during evening and overnight travel hours.

Drivers are advised to avoid travel during active snow squalls and monitor weather updates. If driving is unavoidable, motorists should reduce speed, allow extra following distance, and avoid sudden braking. According to NWS, squalls can develop suddenly and create whiteout conditions.

The dangerous weather will ease by Tuesday morning, though icy road conditions may linger into the early commute.
