Snow Squall Warnings Issued for Central and West Central Minnesota

Twin Cities, MN – The National Weather Service has issued snow squall warnings for parts of central and west central Minnesota, cautioning residents of rapidly deteriorating travel conditions due to intense bursts of heavy snow and strong winds.

According to the NWS Twin Cities, a snow squall was observed near Champlin, approximately 15 miles north of Minneapolis, at 10:42 a.m. Wednesday, moving southeast at 35 mph. The warning affects northeastern Hennepin, east-central Wright, central Anoka, southeastern Sherburne, and Ramsey counties and is set to expire at 11:30 a.m. Wind gusts over 35 mph and sudden whiteout conditions are anticipated, impacting travel on U.S. Highway 10 and U.S. Highway 169.

In west central Minnesota, the NWS Grand Forks issued a snow squall warning at 10:57 a.m. for southern Otter Tail, Grant, and Wilkin counties. The squall is moving south at 40 mph, bringing wind gusts over 40 mph and near-zero visibility. Interstate 94 between mile markers 55 and 80 is among the affected routes. The warning is in effect until 11:45 a.m.

Travelers are urged to reduce speed, use headlights, and exercise caution as conditions can change abruptly, creating hazardous driving scenarios.
