Snow Squall Warning Issued for Northern and Central Vermont

Burlington, VT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington has issued a Snow Squall Warning for several counties in northern and central Vermont, in effect until noon Wednesday.

According to the NWS, a dangerous snow squall was detected at 10:52 a.m., moving east at 35 mph. The squall is expected to bring intense bursts of heavy snow, wind gusts up to 35 mph, and rapidly deteriorating visibility to less than a quarter mile.

Affected areas include:

• Lamoille County

• Northwestern Caledonia County

• Orleans County

• Northeastern Chittenden County

• Northern Washington County

• Central Franklin County

Highways impacted:

Interstate 89(mile markers 74 to 87)

Interstate 91(mile markers 150 to 170)

Major towns in the warning area include Essex Junction, South Burlington, Morrisville, Enosburg Falls, Newport City, and Williston.

Precautionary Actions:

Travel conditions may rapidly deteriorate, leading to dangerous whiteout conditions. The NWS advises reducing speed, turning on headlights, and being prepared for sudden visibility loss.
