Charleston, WV – Temperatures will struggle to reach the 50s across the lowlands today, while the mountains will see highs in the 30s and 40s. Scattered rain showers are expected throughout the morning, but snow showers are likely in the highest elevations.
According to the National Weather Service, upslope snow may continue in mountain areas throughout the day, with some locations seeing up to half an inch of snow. Rain showers in the lowlands are expected to taper off by midday, though a few could include graupel or small hail. Precipitation should end in the mountains by this evening.
Cold weather remains a concern with overnight lows dropping into the 30s. A Frost Advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday, with patchy frost expected to develop again overnight into Thursday morning. Warmer conditions are forecast for the end of the week, with sunshine returning and highs reaching the 60s and 70s by Friday.
Residents in higher elevations should prepare for potentially slick conditions and protect sensitive plants from frost.
