Amarillo, TX – Snow may soon return to the Texas Panhandle, bringing potential travel disruptions for areas near Dalhart, Guymon, and Amarillo. The National Weather Service (NWS) is closely monitoring snow chances for Monday night into Tuesday morning, with accumulations of at least 0.5 inches possible across the region.
According to the NWS Amarillo office, areas along U.S. 87 and U.S. 385 could see snow-covered roads and reduced visibility as a cold front sweeps through. Current forecasts place the highest snow probabilities in a band from Santa Fe to Dalhart, with precipitation chances ranging from 40% to 70%. Residents should prepare for possible delays, especially during overnight and early-morning hours.
Before snow moves in, temperatures this week will remain cool but manageable. Wednesday will bring sunny skies and a high of 58°F, followed by a low near 32°F that night. Thursday’s high will hover around 52°F with similar conditions. However, winds will shift by Friday, reaching 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. This pattern signals the approach of the winter storm expected to impact early next week.
Drivers are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare vehicles for winter travel. Stocking emergency supplies and checking tire conditions are essential safety measures. Those commuting along major highways should remain cautious of rapidly changing weather conditions.
Local agencies will continue providing updates as the storm develops. Residents should stay tuned to official forecasts and consider altering travel plans if snow accumulations significantly impact roadways.
