LAKE CHARLES, La. — Despite growing online speculation, the likelihood of snow across southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana late Saturday night into early Sunday remains very low, according to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles.

Forecasters say a strong cold front will move through the region on Saturday, bringing colder air and temperatures hovering near or just below freezing early Sunday morning. While this setup technically allows for the possibility of snow, atmospheric conditions are expected to be too dry to support anything more than a few isolated flurries.

Any snow that does occur would be brief and spotty, with many communities seeing no precipitation at all. Meteorologists emphasize that accumulation is not expected, as temperatures will rise above freezing shortly after sunrise Sunday.

Officials are also pushing back against comparisons to last winter’s historic Gulf Coast snow event. The upcoming system lacks the moisture, duration, and intensity that made that storm impactful, and it should not produce similar disruptions.

Even so, forecasters note that seeing snowflakes in this part of the Gulf Coast — however fleeting — would still be a rare experience. Residents are encouraged to rely on official weather sources for updates and to be cautious of exaggerated claims circulating on social media as the weekend approaches.
