Charlottesville, VA – The National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Augusta, Nelson, and Albemarle counties, including the Central Virginia Blue Ridge, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters expect 1 to 3 inches of snow, with locally up to 4 inches possible along higher elevations of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Snow will move in during the early morning hours Monday and taper off through the afternoon.
With subfreezing temperatures already in place, forecasters say snow will readily accumulate on roadways, leading to slick and hazardous travel conditions. The morning and evening commutes are both expected to be affected.
Travelers across Charlottesville, Waynesboro, Lovingston, and Staunton should slow down, allow extra time, and be prepared for reduced visibility during heavier snowfall.
The NWS advises using caution on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways, which could also become icy as temperatures remain below freezing.
