Charleston, WV — A widespread round of snow is producing slick travel conditions across the region this morning, with accumulations continuing into early afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the mountains, where the heaviest totals are most likely.

Forecasters report that confidence is highest in seeing 1–4 inches across the mountains, including areas near Beckley, Snowshoe, Summersville, and Elkins, where colder air will support more persistent snowfall. Lower elevations—including the Charleston and Huntington metro areas—will see lighter totals, generally an inch or less.

A complicating factor today is that snow may mix with or transition briefly to rain in several lowland areas late this morning. This could limit accumulations but may also create slushy, slick spots during the busiest part of the day.

Most of today’s snowfall is expected to end by around 1 PM, except in the higher elevations where snow showers may linger into the afternoon.

Motorists should plan for slow travel, reduced visibility, and untreated roadways—especially during the morning commute. Conditions will improve through the afternoon as precipitation tapers off and road crews continue treating surfaces.

A brief lull in precipitation is expected tonight and into Saturday afternoon. Another system approaches late Saturday, bringing the potential for additional snow to the region as the next disturbance moves in.
