La Crosse, WI – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday for portions of western and southwest Wisconsin, northeast Iowa, and southeast Minnesota, as heavy snow and gusty winds continue to create dangerous travel conditions across the region overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, areas including La Crosse, Winona, Prairie du Chien, Richland Center, and Wabasha will see an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow before tapering off near sunrise. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are leading to blowing and drifting snow, with near-blizzard conditions possible west of the Mississippi River valley.
Roads remain snow-covered and slick, with reduced visibility along Highway 61, I-90, and local county routes. Officials urge motorists to avoid travel if possible and to keep emergency supplies—including flashlights, blankets, and food—on hand if driving is unavoidable.
The heaviest snow will ease overnight, but light snow and gusty winds will continue into early Sunday, keeping conditions hazardous through the morning commute.
