Marquette, MI – Lake-effect rain and snow showers are winding down across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, bringing temporary relief from the wet and chilly conditions that blanketed the region. The National Weather Service in Marquette reports that skies will clear gradually, offering residents a mild start to the weekend before more rain moves in on Sunday.
According to the NWS, Friday’s highs will range from 38 to 46 degrees, with lows dipping into the mid-20s inland and 30s closer to the lakeshore. Skies are expected to clear by Friday evening, setting the stage for partly cloudy and dry weather through Saturday.
Saturday promises the best weather of the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing to an unseasonably warm 50 to 55 degrees. Winds will be relatively calm, coming from the south at around 10 mph. For those planning outdoor activities, Saturday provides the ideal opportunity before rain returns to the forecast.
By Sunday, clouds will roll back in with rain likely to begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs between 51 and 56 degrees, but rain coverage is expected to reach 90% overnight, which could lead to wet roads and limited visibility for drivers.
As the new week begins, rain is forecast to continue through Monday, potentially impacting commutes along Highway 41 and other local roads in Marquette and the surrounding areas. Monday’s high could reach 61 degrees, bringing unseasonable warmth along with the wet weather.
For Upper Peninsula residents, the current forecast suggests a temporary break from the lake-effect showers, followed by a soggy end to the weekend. Drivers should prepare for slick conditions starting Sunday afternoon and check local advisories for any changes in the forecast.
