Gaylord, MI – Drivers across northern Michigan should prepare for slippery conditions today as snow and bitter cold continue to grip the region. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m., with lake effect snow expected to reduce visibility on major roadways like US-131 and M-32.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord, additional snowfall could total 2-4 inches today, with hazardous travel expected through the morning and evening hours. Wind chills are forecast to drop as low as -14°F, posing a risk of frostbite for anyone outside for extended periods. Officials urge residents to slow down and allow extra travel time.

Looking ahead, snow showers will persist through Tuesday, with another 2 inches expected. Temperatures will remain frigid, with Tuesday’s high near 3°F and wind chills plummeting to -18°F. Blowing snow could impact visibility further, particularly on open stretches of road.

By midweek, snow showers are likely again on Wednesday, with highs reaching 14°F. The chance for snowfall decreases slightly by Thursday, but temperatures will stay below freezing through the week, with lows as cold as -7°F Thursday night.

Residents are advised to keep an emergency weather kit in their vehicles, check road conditions before traveling, and limit outdoor activities during extreme cold. For updated forecasts, visit the NWS website or follow local weather alerts.
