Grand Rapids, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across western Michigan, bringing snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. The advisory impacts Kent, Barry, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo counties until 7 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches are expected. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph, creating slick roads and low visibility, particularly near bridges and overpasses.

The advisory also extends to south-central Michigan, including Lansing, Jackson, and Battle Creek, where conditions are expected to improve after 10 a.m. Roads in these areas remain hazardous, with up to two additional inches of snow possible.

Lake effect snow is creating unpredictable conditions, with heavy snow bands alternating with clearer skies. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.

Residents should prepare for rapid weather changes throughout the day and avoid unnecessary travel. The combination of snow and high winds will make outdoor activities challenging.
