Davenport, IA – A wave of light snow is moving across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois today, creating hazardous travel conditions. Residents and commuters near the Highway 20 corridor should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Quad Cities, light snow is forecast to continue through midday Friday, with accumulations up to 2 inches in some areas. Winds gusting up to 35 mph will cause blowing snow and further reduce visibility, particularly on open highways like I-80 and Highway 20. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and use caution on untreated surfaces.
Friday’s high temperature is expected to reach 31°F, with lows dipping to 17°F tonight. Any remaining moisture will freeze overnight, increasing the risk of icy patches into Saturday morning.
Looking ahead, Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 38°F, offering some reprieve. However, clouds return by Sunday night, with highs in the upper 30s and a chance of rain early next week.
For residents planning travel, the weekend forecast remains chilly with lows in the 20s and gusty conditions persisting through Monday. Be sure to monitor updates from the NWS and prepare for potential delays if venturing out.
