Snohomish, WA – A man was killed early Tuesday morning after his vehicle entered a flooded roadway and became fully submerged in Snohomish, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies and fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a vehicle in the water near 6600 block of Marsh Road, close to Lowell Larimer Road. Investigators say the driver had passed posted road closed signs and continued northbound into an area known to be flooded.
Authorities said the vehicle left the roadway and entered lower farmland and ditch areas, where water levels were estimated at approximately six feet. When first responders arrived, the car was completely submerged.
Fire rescue swimmers were able to locate the vehicle and remove the driver. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, officials said.
The driver is believed to be a 33-year-old man. No other occupants were found inside the vehicle.
Investigators say the incident remains under investigation. At this time, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death, as well as confirm the driver’s identity.
Officials are urging drivers to obey posted road closures, especially during flooding events. Even shallow-moving water can be dangerous, and conditions can worsen quickly overnight when visibility is reduced.
Anyone with additional information related to the incident is encouraged to contact local authorities.
