KANKAKEE, Ill. (Oct. 23, 2025) — With changes to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) set to take effect Nov. 1, thousands of Americans may see their food benefits reduced or expire. Local agencies in Kankakee County are reminding residents that food pantries and community resources are available to help.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced adjustments to emergency allotments and eligibility thresholds, which could impact households that have relied on expanded benefits since the pandemic.

Local officials and nonprofits are urging residents facing food insecurity to reach out for assistance.
