Smyrna, DE – A Wilmington man is in custody after state police say he allegedly carried out two separate road rage shootings along Route 1, alarming drivers and prompting a multi-agency investigation.

According to Delaware State Police, the first incident happened Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, around 3 p.m. near Wrangle Hill Road in New Castle. Troopers said two victims were traveling northbound when they encountered a gray SUV allegedly driving erratically. After a brief exchange, the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the victims before they drove away. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said a second shooting allegedly occurred Monday, March 10, around 5:40 a.m. on southbound Route 1 near Exit 119. Investigators allege the same suspect, driving a light gray crossover-style SUV, fired a weapon, striking a BMW. A 46-year-old driver and a passenger were inside but were not injured. The suspect allegedly fled the scene.

Detectives later identified the suspect vehicle as a gray Nissan Rogue and identified the driver as Curtis Reed, 61, of Wilmington. Police said a search warrant was obtained, and Reed was taken into custody Tuesday morning by the Special Operations Response Team without incident. A loaded handgun was allegedly recovered from the vehicle.

Reed faces multiple felony charges in connection with both incidents, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and aggravated menacing. He was issued a $22,000 unsecured bond for the February case and later committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $24,600 cash bond for the March incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
