MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Ark. – Two people were killed and two others injured Friday afternoon in a six-vehicle crash on State Highway 181, north of State Highway 140, between Manila and Osceola, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP).

The collision occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, when zero-visibility smoke from a field fire drifted across the roadway, causing drivers to lose sight of traffic ahead.

According to ASP investigators, traffic had slowed because of the smoke when a 2018 GMC Terrain, driven by Mackenzie Marie Risner, 21, of Manila, allegedly struck the rear of a 2012 Kenworth semi-truck. The impact sent the GMC into a roadside ditch. A second vehicle, driven by Jan Sebastian Rabie, 32, of Brookland, then collided with the same semi-truck, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles.

Rabie was pronounced dead at the scene, and Risner succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital, police said. Two other motorists were injured in the pileup.

ASP’s Company F unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Officials cited smoke from agricultural burning as a contributing factor to the deadly wreck.
