Slope County, ND –Two people were injured Tuesday evening after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a fixed object west of New England, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the injury crash occurred Tuesday, January 20, at approximately 5:49 p.m. Mountain Time on Highway 21 near mile marker 10, west of New England in Slope County. Authorities reported wet roads with blowing snow and light snowfall at the time of the crash.

Troopers say a 2013 Dodge Caravan was traveling south on 126th Avenue Southwest when the driver missed the turn onto Highway 21, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The van traveled across the highway and into a farmyard, where it struck a parked car trailer.

The driver, a 64-year-old man from Belfield, was injured in the crash. A 41-year-old female passenger, also from Belfield, suffered serious injuries, according to authorities. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Emergency crews from the Slope County Sheriff’s Office, Hettinger County Sheriff’s Office, New England Fire, and New England Ambulance responded to the scene. The injured driver and passenger were transported to CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Dickinson for treatment.

The crash has been classified as a roadway departure involving a vehicle and fixed object. No charges have been filed at this time, and the incident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Authorities continue to remind drivers to slow down and remain alert during winter driving conditions, especially on rural highways where blowing snow can reduce visibility and obscure intersections.
