Juneau, AK – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Municipality of Skagway, including White Pass and the Klondike Highway, as a low-pressure system brings heavy snow and strong winds through noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Juneau.
Forecasters report total snow accumulations between 7 and 12 inches, with gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and difficult travel. The heaviest snowfall is expected late Monday evening through early Tuesday morning, when the storm’s main front pushes across Alaska’s panhandle.
“Travel could be very difficult and is discouraged,” the NWS warned in its latest advisory. The storm is expected to gradually weaken by midday Tuesday, though lingering snow showers may continue into the afternoon.
Residents and travelers are urged to prepare vehicles and property ahead of worsening conditions and to avoid unnecessary trips along the Klondike Highway overnight. For updated travel and road information, Alaskans can visit 511.alaska.gov or call 511 before heading out.
The NWS advises using extra caution on mountain passes and exposed routes, where visibility can drop rapidly due to drifting snow and high winds.
