Siskiyou County, CA – A dramatic early-morning manhunt in McCloud concluded Tuesday after two parolees wanted for violent felonies were taken into custody, according to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 6:15 a.m., deputies approached a parked pickup near Upland Road and Edry Drive outside Mount Shasta, where two individuals were reportedly asleep inside. When contacted, the suspects allegedly fled in the vehicle, triggering a pursuit through McCloud.
According to Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue, the suspects — Stephen Robles, 36, and Marcus Vanco, 35 — were both recognized from prior law enforcement contacts. Robles was wanted for second-degree murder and was on probation for assault with a deadly weapon, while Vanco was on parole for receiving stolen property and drug offenses.
The chase ended near Highway 89 after the suspects’ truck became stuck. Robles allegedly pointed a shotgun at a deputy, prompting the deputy to fire one round. No one was injured, and both suspects were arrested at the scene.
Detectives later recovered firearms and controlled substances from the vehicle. Robles and Vanco were booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on multiple felony charges, including felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.
Sheriff LaRue thanked the McCloud community and multiple assisting agencies for their help in safely resolving the standoff. “This case was yet another dangerous example of how the broken criminal justice system in California allows habitual violent offenders to freely roam the streets,” LaRue said.
