Medford, Oregon – Isolated but potentially dangerous thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon across southern Oregon, bringing lightning, small hail, and gusty outflow winds to Siskiyou, Klamath, and Lake counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, scattered storms could ignite between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., primarily impacting higher terrain and exposed areas. While widespread coverage is not anticipated, any storms that do develop could produce wind gusts up to 40 mph and brief downpours.

Cities like Klamath Falls, Lakeview, and Yreka may see periods of lightning and slick roads, especially near open ridgelines and highways like U.S. 97 and OR-140. Residents planning outdoor activities or travel should remain alert and have a shelter plan ready.

The Weather Service reminds the public that “when thunder roars, go indoors.” Stay sheltered for at least 30 minutes after the last rumble. Those in remote areas should avoid exposed ridges, large open fields, or tall isolated trees.

Storm chances taper by late Saturday night, but additional thunderstorm risk could return early next week depending on monsoon moisture trends.
