SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Drivers across southeast South Dakota and northwest Iowa should brace for slippery roads and reduced visibility early Saturday as a quick-moving snow system moves through the region. Light to moderate snowfall is expected to begin around 5 a.m. and taper off by midday, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.

According to forecasters, most areas will see one to two inches of snow, though localized totals could reach up to four inches—particularly between Sioux Falls and Sioux City. The advisory includes Minnehaha, Lincoln, and Yankton counties in South Dakota, as well as Lyon, Sioux, and Plymouth counties in Iowa.

Morning commuters should expect slick highways, especially along I-29 and U.S. Highway 75, where snow-covered lanes could lead to reduced traction and minor travel delays. Officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check 511 travel updates before heading out.

The snow is expected to end by noon, giving way to cloudy but calmer afternoon conditions. However, with temperatures hovering near freezing, untreated roads may remain icy through Saturday evening.
