Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Showers will taper off across South Dakota tonight, with skies clearing and cool overnight lows ranging from 49 to 55 degrees. Thursday brings plenty of sunshine, but isolated storms are set to return by Thursday night, setting the stage for a busy weather weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, temperatures will stay cooler than average on Thursday before a gradual warming trend begins Friday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop late Thursday into Friday, with a 50% chance of storms Friday night. Some storms Friday afternoon and evening could be strong to severe, especially in southeastern counties and near the Minnesota border.

Roadways across Sioux Falls, Brookings, and Yankton could see brief flooding during downpours, and strong winds may cause isolated power outages late Friday. Travelers are urged to monitor road conditions, especially along I-29 and Highway 14. Residents should secure outdoor items and charge devices in advance of Friday’s severe threat.

Saturday and Sunday bring warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the upper 70s and a continued risk of periodic storms, especially during the afternoon. Sunshine returns early next week, but weather alerts may continue if storms intensify.
