Sioux Falls, SD – A mild end to the week will give way to a sharp blast of winter weather this weekend as rain and snow move in, followed by much colder air.

According to the US National Weather Service Sioux Falls, sprinkles will linger across southwestern Minnesota today before rain and snow return tonight, continuing through Saturday night. Accumulations are expected to stay light—around 1 inch or less, though a few spots near Brookings to Spencer could see slightly higher totals.

Saturday will turn windy and colder, with gusts reaching 25 to 40 mph, especially in south-central South Dakota. The real chill arrives Sunday, when highs will stay below freezing and wind chills dip into the single digits. Monday morning will also start bitterly cold, with teens and single-digit feels-like temperatures expected.

Forecasters urge residents to prepare for the first true winter weekend of the season — including frosty mornings, slick roads in spots, and strong winds making outdoor conditions uncomfortable.
