Sioux Falls, S.D. – Residents across eastern South Dakota should brace for chilly overnight conditions this weekend, with patchy frost expected in low-lying areas east of Interstate 29. Nighttime lows will dip into the mid-30s, leaving frost possible in rural and sheltered spots.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, temperatures will stay below normal through Monday morning, with the coldest nights expected Saturday and Sunday. The agency cautions drivers and farmers that sensitive vegetation could be at risk of frost damage if not covered or brought indoors.

Daytime hours, however, will bring relief, with highs climbing into the 60s and 70s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will ease compared to earlier in the week, providing a calmer weekend overall. By Monday, breezier conditions will return along I-29, with a slight chance of showers.

Residents are advised to protect plants and allow extra time for morning commutes in frost-prone areas. The cool stretch is expected to hold through early next week, with more seasonal warmth gradually returning afterward.
