Sioux Falls, SD – Residents across eastern South Dakota should prepare for unsettled weather this week, with storms and heavy rain expected to impact travel and outdoor plans beginning Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, showers and thunderstorms will develop near and west of the James River Tuesday night. Some storms could turn severe, bringing heavy rainfall and localized flooding risks. The greatest chances for storms are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with rain pockets potentially producing significant downpours.
Temperatures will remain warm and humid Tuesday, with highs in the 80s before cooling later in the week. By Wednesday, highs will range from the mid-70s to mid-80s, dropping into the 70s by Thursday. Overnight lows will stay in the 50s to 60s, further contributing to muggy conditions.
The NWS notes that storm activity will taper off by Friday, leaving behind cooler, drier conditions heading into the weekend. Still, scattered showers could linger Friday morning before clearing.
Motorists are urged to use caution during heavy rainfall, and residents should monitor local forecasts for updated watches and warnings as conditions evolve midweek.
