Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Dangerously high heat and a spike in humidity will grip eastern South Dakota through Friday, with Sioux Falls expected to feel like 103°F by mid-afternoon and a chance for overnight thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, Friday’s high of 91°F combined with rising dewpoints will push the heat index into triple digits across much of Minnehaha County and surrounding areas. Gusty south winds up to 20 mph may offer little relief. A 30% chance of showers and storms could develop after sunset, mainly before 1 a.m. Saturday, potentially impacting evening travel and outdoor events.

Saturday brings a return to calmer weather with highs in the low 80s and mostly sunny skies, continuing into Sunday. Lows will remain mild in the upper 60s and low 70s overnight. While no formal warnings are in effect yet, residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure Friday afternoon, and keep an eye on changing conditions Friday night.

More storm chances are possible early next week if the pattern holds. Updates from the NWS will continue as conditions evolve.
