Sioux Falls, SD – The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls is warning residents of elevated fire danger across much of the region Monday and Tuesday, October 20–21, as gusty west to northwest winds and dry conditions develop behind a cold front.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts between 30 and 45 mph will be possible both days, combined with low humidity values near 30–40% and very dry grassland conditions. These factors could allow fires to spread rapidly if ignited.
The areas most at risk include Brookings, Mitchell, Huron, and Sioux City, where humidity will remain low and winds strongest through Tuesday afternoon. Residents are urged to avoid debris burning, outdoor welding, or any activity that could cause sparks.
Officials remind the public to report any wildfire immediately and use extra caution when working outdoors, especially in open fields or rural zones.
