Sioux Falls, SD – Snow showers and gusty winds will hit the Sioux Falls region Tuesday, creating hazardous travel conditions for drivers. The National Weather Service forecasts light snow accumulations of up to two inches, primarily after 4 p.m., with icy roads and reduced visibility along Interstate 29.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will intensify during the evening hours, coinciding with the commute. Breezy winds reaching 20 mph are expected to further reduce visibility. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, particularly as temperatures drop into the teens Tuesday night, increasing the risk of flash freezing on roadways.

The Arctic cold front will bring dangerously low wind chills to Sioux Falls by Wednesday morning, with values as low as -10°F to -20°F. Daytime highs on Wednesday will struggle to reach 10°F, with blustery conditions persisting. Officials warn that prolonged exposure to these temperatures could result in frostbite within minutes.

The forecast for Thursday shows continued cold with highs near 20°F and a slight chance of snow by the afternoon. Warmer temperatures are expected heading into the weekend, with highs climbing to the upper 30s by Saturday.

Travelers should prepare for sudden changes in visibility and icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and monitor updates from the National Weather Service.
