
Sioux Falls, SD – Sioux City experienced a historic weather event Tuesday as thunderstorms brought a record-setting 1.75 inches of rainfall. This surpasses the previous record of 1.59 inches set on July 2, 1902.
According to the US National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the heaviest rain fell in Sioux City at the Sioux Gateway Airport. Meteorologists warn that more severe weather is expected for the region, with strong to severe thunderstorms forecasted from Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday.
The focus of the storms will generally be west of I-29, with the highest risk between 5 and 10 p.m. A second wave of weaker showers and thunderstorms is predicted in the early hours of Thursday, continuing through mid-morning.
For Sioux Falls, the forecast indicates a 75% chance of rain on Thursday with temperatures ranging from 61°F to 73°F. Rain chances decrease to 35% on Friday, with temperatures between 58°F and 76°F. The weekend outlook includes mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid-70s.
