Reno, Nevada – Drivers and early commuters across northern Nevada are waking up to near-freezing temperatures as low as 28°F, but a rapid warmup will push afternoon highs into the mid-70s by Sunday, creating sharp daily temperature swings that can impact travel and outdoor plans within hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, cold mornings will persist through the early weekend with temperatures dipping below freezing in valleys, followed by a steady warming and drying trend beginning by midday Saturday and continuing through Tuesday evening.

In Reno, temperatures climb from 61°F Friday to 76°F by Sunday and Monday, with overnight lows rising from 28°F to the low 40s. South Lake Tahoe remains cooler, starting near 18°F Friday morning before reaching the mid-60s by Sunday, while Mammoth Lakes sees a similar climb from 13°F to the low 60s. These swings can create icy patches on bridges and shaded roads during early morning hours, especially along I-580, U.S. 395, and mountain passes.

Residents should layer clothing for 30- to 40-degree temperature changes within the same day and remain cautious during sunrise travel when frost may linger. The dry air will also increase wildfire risk slightly as conditions warm.

The warming trend holds steady through Tuesday, with no major storms expected, though additional advisories could be issued if morning freeze impacts expand.
