Fresno, Calif. – Thunderstorms could bring dangerous conditions across Central California through Tuesday evening, with the National Weather Service warning of lightning, heavy rain, small hail, and strong erratic winds. The storm threat is focused on the Sierra Nevada, foothills, and desert regions, raising concerns for travelers and outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, thunderstorm chances range from 15 to 30 percent across the mountains and desert through 11 p.m. Tuesday. Communities including Fresno, Visalia, and Bakersfield may see scattered activity nearby, while higher elevations face the greatest risk of lightning and localized downpours.

Officials caution that frequent lightning strikes could trigger new wildfires in dry brush areas, while sudden bursts of heavy rain may cause localized flooding in steep terrain. Small hail and gusty winds are also possible, especially in the Sierra foothills and desert passes.

Residents are urged to monitor conditions closely, avoid outdoor activities during storms, and secure loose items that could be blown around by strong winds. Drivers should be prepared for slick roads and rapidly changing visibility in downpours.

The storm risk will linger into Tuesday night before drier conditions return midweek. Additional updates may be issued if thunderstorms intensify.
