Hanford, CA – A winter storm warning is in effect for California’s Sierra Nevada, where snowfall above 6,000 feet could exceed six inches by tonight. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that treacherous travel conditions are likely through 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the NWS Hanford office, the storm will bring a mix of heavy snow and gusty winds, making travel along Interstate 80 and Highway 50 potentially hazardous. Motorists are urged to carry tire chains and emergency supplies if driving through mountain passes. A dense fog advisory is also in place across the Central Valley, with visibility dropping to less than a quarter mile in some areas.
Rain is expected throughout Hanford today, with a high near 58 degrees and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. By Christmas Day, conditions will improve slightly, with patchy fog in the morning giving way to partly sunny skies and a high near 53 degrees.
Looking ahead, Wednesday night will see mostly clear skies, while Thursday and Friday bring small chances of rain with highs in the mid-50s. Travelers and residents should prepare for lingering fog during the early morning hours, especially in low-lying areas.
The NWS encourages residents to monitor weather updates closely and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. Updates can be accessed at weather.gov.
