Louisiana – A cool bite greets early risers as clear skies stretch over northwest Louisiana, with breath visible and grass damp from early chill. The cold does not last long. A strong warming trend quickly takes hold as New Year’s Eve unfolds.

According to the National Weather Service, Shreveport started the morning near 35 degrees under calm winds. Sunshine dominates the day, allowing temperatures to climb into the low 60s by afternoon. Roads remain dry, though shaded spots may feel slick early where condensation lingers.

Conditions continue improving into New Year’s Day. Clouds gradually increase, but highs rise into the upper 60s, setting the stage for an unseasonably warm start to 2026. Thursday night stays mild, with lows only falling into the mid-50s.

By Friday, the warm-up peaks. Afternoon temperatures surge into the upper 70s with a light southwest breeze. Travel conditions remain favorable across I-20 and Highway 171, though drivers may notice stronger crosswinds during the afternoon hours.

The first weekend of 2026 stays comfortable. Saturday brings mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s, ideal for outdoor plans. Saturday night cools into the low 40s, followed by another bright and mild Sunday near 65 degrees.

While much of the country battles winter extremes, northwest Louisiana enjoys a rare calm stretch. Still, early mornings remain cool, and drivers should stay alert for brief slick spots around sunrise.

More updates could follow if winds increase late week. Heading out for New Year’s plans or weekend travel? Tell us how conditions feel where you are.
