Shreveport, Louisiana – Near-normal temperatures are expected across northwest Louisiana today, but much colder conditions are forecast to settle in overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

In a social media update posted Sunday, the National Weather Service said afternoon high temperatures will climb into the 50s, providing a relatively mild day across the region. However, conditions will change quickly after sunset as colder air moves in.

Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall into the upper 20s across northern areas, while locations farther south are expected to dip into the lower 30s. The sharp temperature drop may catch some residents off guard following the milder daytime conditions.

The cold overnight lows could have impacts for outdoor pets, sensitive plants, and unprotected plumbing, particularly in rural and low-lying areas where temperatures tend to fall more rapidly. Early morning commuters may also encounter cold conditions at bus stops and outdoor work sites.

The National Weather Service noted that temperatures are expected to remain near to slightly below seasonal averages, a pattern typical for mid-January but still cold enough to warrant precautions. Clear skies and lighter winds overnight may allow temperatures to fall efficiently before sunrise.

Residents are encouraged to bring pets indoors, protect sensitive plants, and take basic cold-weather precautions tonight. While no freeze warning was mentioned in the post, sub-freezing temperatures in some areas could still lead to localized impacts.
