Shreveport, Louisiana — A sharp shift to winterlike conditions is expected across northwest Louisiana early next week, with freezing morning temperatures developing after a Sunday cold front moves through the region.
According to the National Weather Service Shreveport, above-normal temperatures will continue through Saturday, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 70s. Morning low clouds and patchy fog are possible again, gradually giving way to partly cloudy skies.
Rain chances increase Sunday as a cold front approaches. Forecasts call for scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms Sunday evening, with morning lows in the low to mid-60s and highs ranging from 74 to 81 degrees ahead of the front.
Conditions will change quickly Sunday night into Monday as cooler air arrives. Monday morning lows are expected to fall into the 30s and lower 40s, with daytime highs only reaching the low to mid-40s. Breezy north winds will reinforce the colder air, making temperatures feel even cooler.
The coldest period is expected Tuesday morning, when morning lows between 21 and 28 degrees are forecast across much of the region. The National Weather Service warns that below-freezing temperatures are likely area-wide, with clearing skies allowing temperatures to drop quickly overnight. Tuesday afternoon highs are expected to recover into the mid to upper 40s.
Another cold morning is possible Wednesday, with lows in the mid-20s to near 30 degrees before highs rebound into the mid-50s later in the day.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for freezing conditions, including protecting sensitive plants, outdoor pets, and exposed pipes. Drivers should also remain alert during early morning hours when frost may develop on bridges and overpasses.
