Shreveport, Louisiana – A Winter Storm Watch is in effect across much of the ArkLaTex as the likelihood of snow and ice impacts increases heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, forecast trends show a medium chance of measurable snow north of Interstate 30, with amounts of 0.1 inch or greater possible. In addition, there is a high probability of sleet and freezing rain, with sleet accumulations of 0.5 inch and freezing rain up to 0.25 inch possible across the region.

The Winter Storm Watch timing varies by location. Areas north of Interstate 20 are under the watch from Friday morning through Sunday morning, while areas south of I-20 are included from Friday evening through Sunday evening.

Forecasters note that freezing rain and sleet pose the greatest concern, as ice accumulation can quickly lead to hazardous travel conditions, especially on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads. Power disruptions and tree damage are also possible if ice amounts increase.

The National Weather Service cautions that travel conditions may deteriorate into early next week, depending on how the system evolves. Residents are encouraged to prepare winter weather kits, review travel plans, and monitor forecast updates closely.

While uncertainty remains regarding exact precipitation amounts and placement, confidence is increasing that winter weather will impact the region this weekend.

Additional updates, advisories, or warnings may be issued as confidence in impacts continues to grow.
