Shreveport, La. – Dangerous heat will grip northwest Louisiana through Tuesday, with Shreveport facing highs near 104 degrees and a heat index climbing as high as 115. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, with officials urging residents to limit time outdoors.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, calm winds and little cloud cover will allow heat to build quickly by midday Tuesday. The risk of heat-related illness increases dramatically for those without air conditioning, especially the elderly and children. Power demand is expected to climb across Caddo and Bossier parishes as residents seek relief indoors.
Relief may come by Wednesday, when a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms moves into the area. Highs will still reach the upper 90s, but added cloud cover could help reduce heat stress. Thursday and Friday bring additional storm chances, with highs in the mid-90s.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid outdoor work during peak afternoon hours. Cooling centers may open if conditions worsen.
Warnings remain in effect until Tuesday evening, with more advisories possible if heat lingers through midweek.
