Shreveport, Louisiana – A cold and breezy Saturday afternoon is settling across the Ark-La-Tex region, with temperatures well below seasonal averages and wind chills dipping into the 20s, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service in Shreveport reports afternoon high temperatures only reaching the low to mid-30s across much of the region. Forecast highs include 33 degrees in Texarkana, 32 in El Dorado, 33 in Monroe, 36 in Shreveport, 35 in Tyler, and 36 in Longview, with slightly warmer readings near 39 degrees in Lufkin.
Despite dry conditions, breezy northerly winds are adding an extra bite to the cold. Wind speeds are sufficient to keep wind chill values in the 20s, making it feel colder than actual air temperatures for much of the afternoon.
While no winter precipitation is expected, the combination of cold air and wind may impact those spending extended time outdoors. The National Weather Service advises residents to dress in layers, limit prolonged exposure, and ensure pets have adequate shelter from the cold.
Travel conditions remain dry, but drivers along major routes including Interstate 20, Interstate 30, US-59, US-69, and US-165 may notice reduced comfort during stops or roadside activity due to the cold wind.
Forecasters note that temperatures are running well below average for late January, though no hard freeze concerns are expected during the afternoon hours. Conditions will gradually moderate heading into the latter part of the weekend as winds ease.
This cold afternoon may be especially noticeable for outdoor workers, shoppers, and families attending weekend events across north Louisiana, south Arkansas, and east Texas.
