Shreveport, Louisiana – Drivers across East Texas and the Ark-La-Tex region could encounter rapidly rising water on roads by late afternoon as repeated thunderstorms begin tracking over the same area.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, a marginal risk for excessive rainfall is in place through tonight, with at least a 15% chance of flash flooding. Storms are expected to redevelop and move repeatedly across East Texas, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding, especially in urban and low-lying areas.

Rainfall totals will generally range from 0.5 to 1 inch, but isolated pockets could exceed 2 inches in a short period. Cities including Tyler, Longview, Lufkin, and areas along the I-20 corridor toward Shreveport face the highest risk of water-covered roads and poor drainage flooding. In Lufkin and deeper East Texas, slightly higher rainfall intensity could push creeks and ditches out of banks.

Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions during the evening commute.

The threat will persist into the overnight hours, with additional advisories or warnings possible if storms repeatedly impact the same area.
