Shreveport, Louisiana – Dangerous cold conditions continued Monday in Shreveport, as an Extreme Cold Warning remained in effect through Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, overnight and early morning temperatures ranged from near 0 to 15 degrees, with wind chills as low as -4 degrees. Forecasters warned that hypothermia and frostbite can occur quickly if skin is exposed without proper protection.
The extreme cold is expected to persist through Tuesday morning, before a slow warming trend begins Tuesday afternoon and continues into Wednesday. Even with daytime highs gradually increasing, officials said significant melting of ice-covered roads is unlikely until Tuesday or Wednesday, prolonging hazardous travel conditions.
Roadways that remain iced were advised to be avoided if possible, especially during early morning hours when temperatures remain well below freezing. Breezes combined with lingering ice could keep shaded roads slick despite sunshine.
The weather service also urged residents to continue checking on elderly individuals, those without reliable heat, and unhoused populations, as well as ensuring pets, plants, and exposed pipes are protected from the cold.
The ongoing cold snap remains impactful for commuters and workers, particularly during overnight and early morning travel when temperatures and wind chills are at their lowest.
Officials emphasized that while gradual improvement is expected later this week, cold-related dangers will persist until temperatures climb above freezing for an extended period.
