Shreveport, LA — The Shreveport area and the broader Four State Region are heading into Christmas week under an unusually warm and dry weather pattern, with temperatures approaching record levels and little chance of rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, near-record warmth is expected to spread across northwest Louisiana, east Texas, southern Arkansas, and western Mississippi beginning early next week and continuing through at least next weekend. The warmest conditions are forecast during the week of Christmas, when temperatures will run well above normal for late December.

Forecast outlooks show high temperatures climbing into the 60s and 70s, levels more typical of early spring than the days leading up to Christmas. Overnight lows are also expected to remain mild, limiting any cold-weather relief during the overnight hours.

In addition to the warmth, forecasters emphasize that very dry conditions are expected to persist. The 6- to 10-day precipitation outlook shows little to no measurable rainfall across much of the region. This combination of warmth and dryness could contribute to increasing drought conditions, especially in areas that have already seen below-normal rainfall.

The National Weather Service notes that the lack of precipitation and ongoing dry fuels could lead to heightened fire weather concerns, particularly on breezy days. Residents are urged to use caution with outdoor burning, properly dispose of smoking materials, and avoid activities that could spark fires.

While the warm weather may be welcomed by those traveling or planning outdoor holiday gatherings, forecasters note the pattern is unusual for late December. Normal highs in Shreveport typically range in the mid-50s, meaning temperatures could run 10 to 20 degrees above average.

No winter weather is expected during this period, effectively ruling out a white Christmas for the region.
