Shreveport, LA – A slow-moving upper-level system is expected to bring a prolonged period of heavy rain to the Four-State Region beginning early Saturday and continuing through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Shreveport.

Forecasters have placed much of the region under a Slight Risk (level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall, including parts of northern Louisiana, east Texas, southwest Arkansas, and southeast Oklahoma. The heaviest rain is likely to begin Saturday morning in western areas, spreading east through Sunday.

Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected for most locations, with isolated higher amounts up to 3 to 5 inches possible. Although the area has been relatively dry recently, isolated flash flooding may occur, especially in flood-prone and poor drainage areas.

The NWS advises residents to stay alert for potential flood advisories and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Drier conditions are expected to return early next week as the system moves eastward.
